THE ORTHODOX WEST JOURNAL

The Orthodox West “Journal” page differs from the Praxis page (which focuses on the practical life of an Orthodox Christian in the Western Rite) in that it will feature articles exploring a broad range of topics which have a bearing on the restoration of the Western Rite to the Orthodox Church. The articles may be scholarly, historical, apologetic, analytical, or pastoral depending on the topic. Some articles will be of interest to specialists and others more popular in nature.

Some examples of topics that will be covered but not limited to:

  • The Great Schism
  • The role of the Pope in antiquity
  • The Filioque controversy
  • The role of the Scholastic method in the Orthodox Church
  • Theosis and the Doctrine of the Atonement
  • The use of post schism devotions in the restoration of the Western Rite
  • The place of Saint Augustine in Orthodoxy
  •  What the Roman Catholic Church really teaches about…

Articles will explore the differences between East and West which are not mutually exclusive, but rather provide a binocular vision of the Catholic Orthodox Faith. But we will also be frank about those developments in the West which are incongruent with her Orthodox heritage.

Many of the topics that will be addressed are still open questions in which case the tenor of the articles will be irenic and resist the tendency to pontificate about things that remain- for now- ambiguous.

Our hierarchs along with esteemed clergy, theologians and saints have recognized and encouraged the restoration of the Western Rite to the Orthodox Church. Many of the faithful are unfamiliar with this vision and have questions about the viability and rationale for this restoration, and so there will also be articles of an apologetic nature which will seek to lay out the case for this mission.
